Intel closing its Cavite plant

Last year, when we started hearing, reading and digesting the recession happening in neighboring countries, we were still confident that we were somehow “safe” from it. I mean, considering there are small businesses in this country and there are so many call center companies even hiring last quarter of 2008.

But a few days ago, we are hearing of lay offs, stop hiring, small call centers closing. We are feeling the effects of the global financial crisis in our country now. And then there’s Intel. Intel has a big plant here in the Philippines. It is located in Gen. Trias, Cavite. It employs roughly 1,800 employees. They just announced that they will be shutting down their plant here by February. Intel is closing its Cavite plant soon! Just imagine how many people are going to lose their jobs! 2009 is just beginning and you will be slapped with this news.

Let’s hope and pray that there will be solutions to all these problems soon.
