Beware of free WordPress themes! Not all can be beneficial to your site. Most of these free themes can even be harmful to the site’s rank!
I don’t know if more people will patronize this site offering free WordPress themes. I used to be one of their many followers. I even subscribed to the designer’s personal blog. I was a big fan of their free WordPress themes that I asked them to do two customized themes for my other blogs. And I loved those themes! I have been using them ever since I got it from them. I don’t have any plans of changing it in the near future.
For the past several months now, I have been noticing that they have been releasing free WordPress themes that have a couple of links in the footer section of the theme. It doesn’t matter if the links belong to them, their site itself and their personal blogs. But the links are mostly that of gaming sites. When I noticed it, I stopped downloading their free themes.
People don’t know that unrelated links in the footer of a site can affect their overall ranking in the world wide web. Their page ranks can be compromised with the outgoing links.
So check out the free themes you are downloading. Check out the free WordPress theme that you are currently using for your blog. It might be the reason why your site couldn’t get a decent page rank. Or the reason why you lost the 1 or 2 you got.
